Any questions you may have send to [email protected]
I would like to thank you for helping me obtain my private rating! I have been trying to complete this for quite some time now. This has been challenging to complete due to CFI's, my schedule, their schedule, and I just couldn't seem to complete this which was extremely frustrating! (I was actually ready to sell my Helicopter believe it or not, when I finally made the call to you!)
I purchased the course you offered online, "Private and Commercial Ground School", about a year and half ago, and what a difference that made in preparing me for my check ride! It amazed and motivated me that when I called to ask you if you could help me complete my license, you without hesitation, said, "Come up and we will get this done!" I have been told by several others this exact thing, but you didn't hesitate to help me complete a life-long dream!
I plan on returning next year, after an additional 67 hours, to meet the requirement to obtain my commercial ratings! I cannot thank you enough for making this life-long dream of mine come true!
I absolutely do recommend any of your current or future students to go obtain their training online with your ground school course to save any additional money, if possible, before coming up there! You, my friend, are definitely the "Finisher"!
Thanks again it is much appreciated!
Thank you to all members, past and present, you are why we are here!
Creator Helicopter Online Ground School
Author Helicopter Check Ride
Hello, I'm Kenny Keller, the creator of Helicopter Online Ground School, and author of the Amazon best seller Helicopter Check Ride. You're here on this information video to learn a little bit more about our helicopter online ground school. We went live March 1st, 2012, and in the past four years, we've helped a lot of people get through check rides. I know what it's like to struggle. You are probably struggling a little bit with the studying part, the ground portion because that's what everybody does. Everybody struggles with the ground.
In twenty years of teaching, that's what I see repeatedly over, and over, and over. People just struggle with the ground knowledge. The flying is the fun part, we all want too fly, nobody wants to do ground. A lot of places have good ground school programs, and they'll sit and work with you, but it still takes a lot of study time on your own, and then there are schools that just go, "Here's the book, read it." They just throw a book at you.
Depend on whether you just want extra help. You're getting ground from your instructor, but you want extra help, or maybe you're not getting any ground at all. That's why we created Helicopter Online Ground School. We have a brand new training platform for 2016, so you know this video is updated. 2016 is almost here, and I want to show you our new platform.
This is really, really cool. The platform that we've been using for four years was a great start. The developers of it, they are proud of it, but these developers came out with a new platform. Of course, once I got a look at the new platform, hands down its just technology changes so much in a short amount of time.
They created our original site five years ago, so they're proud of it, it worked, got us to this point where we're at, but in five years, mobile devices changed, video players changed. Everything changes, so they built a brand new site, and we moved all of our content from our old ground school into this new site.
The Helicopter Ground School we've had for years is still there, it's still in place. All of our members that have that training still have that training, and now they're going to have an option to upgrade to the new platform.
You at this video, you're probably here as a first time. Maybe you're just learning about the ground school, or maybe you've been looking for a while, and now you're coming back to take a look again. I'm going to show is the majority is something I'm going to show you on an iPad. I've been demonstrating with a laptop, I've been demonstrating with my iPhone, they all work, and now I'm going to use the iPad.
That's the one thing of course that these developers have said, "Look, we understand in five years, we all know what's happen with mobile devices, electronic devices. It's went nuts." These guys are top in their field, I completely believe that. They've doubled, and tripled the size of their business building this online platforms, and working with them, and I truly believe they're some of the sharpest guys out there, building these types of websites.
Anyway, what I want to show you is the different programs that we have available with Helicopter Online Ground School. This is our home page now at helicopterground.com. This is our new home for everything that we're going to do. All of our old sites are in place, but we're all slowly with time are going to migrate to this new site.
What I want to show is this is our homepage. When you first go to the homepage, there's a store where it shows our different prices, services we have. About us, quick short page, not a lot to it, just to let you know what we're all about, and what we do. Blog post, we'll be adding new blog post to this. We're going to take a lot of the old blog post from the old site and repost them, update them with new pictures, new videos because quite honestly, things change over time, and we put out more videos, better videos, more programs, better pictures.
We're going to move a lot of those blog posts over to the new one, along with putting up new blog posts as things changed, and new programs come out, and new different things we want to talk about as far as helicopter training across the board, no matter what it is. That's where our blog is.
Then, we have my library, which once you join our system ... You as the general public can come and view the site, but if you say signup for a free PDF download from my book you'll be in the system, we'll have your email, you can make a choice whether you want us to be able to email you or not when you sign up for the free book. Check the box if you like to get training updates. Don't check the box, and we won't email you, we won't bother you.
You can get in to the system by downloading my free book Helicopter Check Ride, free PDF copy that is. There's also the opportunity to get the kindle copy for ninety nine cents, or the paperback copy.
Moving on with the training that we have, I'm going to go ahead and slide up. This is what you'll see on helicopterground.com, our homepage, Helicopter Online Ground School courses. What I'm going through first here when I got, and I'll go through, back through, and talk to a little bit about each one of them to give you a little more in details.
We have a download from my Helicopter Check Ride book, best seller on Amazon. We have a ten page download from my notebook that we'll talk about a little bit more in a minute. Those you can click on doesn't cost you anything, you'd have to signup with your email, I guess that will cause your email to get your download, but you have an option to choose to get emails from us about new training, and special offers, things along that lines. Then we have our original modules through ten, one through ten.
This is the original training that I launched back March 1st, 2012 based on my notebook that I created back after my helicopter check ride failure. I tell the story over, and over again, it's why I'm here doing what I'm doing because I failed the first time around, and man it hurts, and I understand, and I know what it's all about, I know what it's like.
After I failed, I sat down and I made this notebook. Used up for all my readings, private commercial CFI, got through my second test at a private level and smoked it. The examiner said, "Hey, what happened? Why'd you fail the first time?" I said, "Because I didn't know my stuff then, like I know my stuff now." Part of the way I did it was by creating this notebook so I had one central place to study because like most of you, you know all these books, and now you've got apps, and you got this. A lot of this things are great, but a person can overwhelm themselves just back like when I failed my private.
I built a notebook so I can sit down, took all the notes I had scattered everywhere, and I put them all in one place so I could sit down, just go through my notebook and just study. Things I struggled with remembering, things my instructor said you've got to know this, I put a little bit of everything on there. It is now a published book on Amazon too.
We've had a lot of success with that. It's just neat that this notebook I created all those years ago that I bought for 3.99, and I never intend this book to be anything other than just my notebook. I started teaching out of it as an instructor when people would be ready for their check rides, people I was teaching, somehow, at some point, in the back of the beginning, I just go, "We'll you're pretty much ready, but hey, you know what, I think we'll sit down and go through the notebooks." I would sit down, and I just lift page to page, and I would go ask a question from that page. They can answer it, I'd ask a question from the next page. That's what I would do.
If I'd go through my notebook asking a question per page, a question or two, and I didn't stamp them, I new they were ready. That's what I gave to Dawn. I'm a first believer in the PTS. I use to PTS when I train, or work with students. Everybody should be using the PTS. This was just my own personal guide. My thing that I like to use. Over the years, the instructors, "Hey, can I borrow that?" My students, "Hey, can I borrow your notebook?" A lot of people really try to buy it. I was always very careful, I didn't want to give it out because I didn't want anything bad to happen to it.
That's the story on the original modules one through ten that you see right here. The original training we took, and I built three hundred and thirty pages of PowerPoint on my notebook, and that's what we started selling March 1st, 2012. We had a lot of good success with that, and it was getting people through check rides, but I would have people that would signup, or pass book customer that would look at it, and say, "You know, modules one through ten is OK, but I want structure. I want to go through something step by step."
We then created the practical test standard section. With the practical test standards, basically what we did was, I went to the PTS. I sat down to this alone by myself, just trying to go through the practical test standards, all ten sections, and I'd go back, and get any old videos I had in the first modules one through ten. I would go back at that content, move it to the PTS section.
Some things I would create new, some things I would add. I maybe had YouTube videos that were newer than my original modules one through ten, I'd bring those in. Everything in the practical test standards, it covers everything that's in the modules one through ten, but it covers more because I'm filing a PTS, move the content over. It has a nice flow, following the PTS, going through step by step, and of course a lot of people really love that because some people needs structure, and that's great, most people do.
The original modules one through ten are good for a lot of guys, or maybe doing an add on. Add on guys like it because they're already pilots, they're already rated, and they want to be tested in random things thrown at them, which again, that's what the original modules one through ten was just for. We called helicopter check ride preparations. Just going through covering things you have to know.
Modules one through ten's kind of random, just testing your knowledge. The PTS section, that is a step by step method going through the FAA practical test standards, making sure we cover everything that you got to know. Then we have a commercial pilot section. The helicopter commercial pilot, we dig more in to what the differences are between the private, and the commercial.
These check rides are very similar, and this is really true. They've really are very similar check rides, it's just the examiner's going to test you to a higher level. He's going to expect you to know everything at the private level, but answer faster, more concise, be able to dig in deeper to those same subject, and those same things. That's why we created the of course, helicopter commercial pilot section was to help people get through the commercial section. We have certified flight instructor section. Again, specific things about becoming a CFI.
At the CFI level, you need to be able to fly to a good commercial standard, and talk the same time, and then, it's about classroom. It's about being in a classroom, so we go through the certified flight instructors section, and go through in tips, and tricks, and things we've seen, and we cover FOI stuff, and I show you some of the ground I've done with some people online that I've helped with CFI stuff because it's really about being a teacher.
Just like right now, we teach you how to ... You don't want to just sit in a classroom with a table and go start teaching a guy, and just looking at him. You want to be able to have something on the table, maybe something on you show them on your iPad, something you've drawn. You have the white board, and you're up drawing on the white board. It's all about how you present yourself.
That's what we cover in the CFI section, is helping you prep to become a CFI, and then we built specific sections on both the R-22, and the R-44 and these are cool. These are for people flying those aircraft. We go through the pilots operating handbook for each aircraft, and help you learn the things that you need to know because as you can imagine when you're going for your check ride, examiner knows what helicopter you're flying, he's going to go at you in that specific aircraft. There's a lot of things that are specific to that aircraft that you're going to have to know.
We built those so she can go through those sections on the R-22 and the R-44, really learn the information, the descriptions, different things you need to know about the aircraft, go over the [inaudible 12:04] procedures, normal procedures, limitations, the things that you have to know when you go for your check ride, and not only that you have to know for your check ride, but things that you've got to know to be safe when you're out there in aircraft to help keep yourself alive. We have those two things, and then I've added one called Build Your Online Business, which is something new that I've added.
What's kind of neat is over the past four years, I've met a lot of people, and I could think of one guy for example, he said, "Hey, man. I'm a flight paramedic, and I want to start a course on how to be a flight paramedic. I want to do this online thing." I've had a lot of people approach me in the last four years, and I like to teach, I like help people, but I really, and truly stay super busy with this Helicopter Online Ground School. I don't really have time to go do other peoples projects, or help them with projects, but overtime I've been shooting video of the things I've done to build my business to where it is now. I'm going to keep adding that because I enjoy what I do.
I started out in my pool building with a little flip camera. Actually, back in my trailer, and not that I'm an expert but I'm feeling pretty comfortable with the presentations I put together today, and this is all self taught. I've learned these things myself, and I started blogging and doing videos five years ago to promote my helicopter company.
Before I started the online ground school, I was flying helicopter EMS, running a helicopter flight school on the side, and it was overwhelming trying to keep those going. I was struggling with the business end of things, working full time, and met a young man named Nick Logan who came there as a new helicopter pilot and became friends, and he was an internet marketer, and he said, "You know, you have to take your business to put it online." That's what started it all. That's why I'm here five years later.
Anyway, now we'll dig a little bit into how this how site works, and I'm going to use the practical test standards, which you may have seen in another video that I put out recently. I just like using the practical test standards because it is a large portion of our training. In our old site, there's ten categories, and then there's anywhere between three to twenty three videos per category.
As a person who's working through it, it could be kind of hard for a person to keep track of where they're at. They take a couple days off, come back and like, "Oh, men. Where was I? What have I completed?" You could work through it step by step, and you could click video to video, but there was no tracking, no way to know what have you watched, have you now watched.
This new system, not only is it mobile friendly, and mobile optimized, it is user friendly in the fact that it tracks your progress, and it shows how much of the videos you've watched. Whether you've watched any or none, when you're done it shows completed, or you can mark it completed on your own, so you know you at least have been through that video.
You can always come back and watch as many times as you want, but if you're working through, and maybe skipping ahead because you want to know about another section, it's very easy to track your progress.
Our past member users are going to love this, or our current member are going to love it, new people coming in are going to love it. I've just been working with it for a couple of months, and I'm really, really impressed. The practical test standards, this is what's cool. I give you a little background on how it worked before. Again, with the PTS, there's ten sections. Pre-flight preparation, pre-flight procedures, airport and airport, airport and heliport operations having maneuvers right on the list.
You can imagine, there's ten sections pre-flight preparation, twenty one or twenty two videos, something like that. You can imagine how without tracking, how difficult it might be for somebody. Let's take a look at it.
When it comes up, you can see all the videos that are underneath that first section. There's all the videos. Number one, it's nice that you can see all the videos just like that, boom you can see each one, which was harder to see before, you only see like a link. Now, you can actually see a photo of each picture. Then, you can see here, I've been completely all the way through with this video, started watching this but it looks like just a few seconds depends on how long the video is. I started watching this one, and I haven't worked any of this others yet, which I'm going to because I'm going to go through it to figure out ... Some of them are newer videos, some of them are older. We're going to be updating videos as time goes by, but you can see the tracking on what you've watched, how much, and you could just click right to it.
Let's go the one that I've already looked at, and here's the view ones that's up. Take a look at this. You can already tell, I've only watched a little bit so I know I need to work back through it, but here are the other videos. When you're ready to go, you want to go back, so you get through this and go. You know what I need to go, I need to hit that one, I haven't been through with it yet. You just click on it, boom, and it takes you back to that video so you can watch that one. Let's say you want to go back and hit that one again, it's OK. You've already been through it, you can go back again. No problem.
This is one of the other major improvements that they have made is the video payer. They're using a video player that they're telling us is latest, greatest technology, which I totally believe that. With our old site, most of the videos worked pretty good, not too many people had a problem.
Once in a while, somebody on a new device, or an older device will call us and say, "Hey, I'm struggling with this one video, and it's buffering a little bit, or it's sticking," which a lot of time is a slow internet, which then I can tell you, you know I watch training and other things that a lot of times will stick, and I know that I've got super fast internet speed, and now I don't any of those kind of problems anymore.
Anyway, the player is supposed to be so much better, and I believe that. I mean, why wouldn't in five years of technology with these guys being gurus in a way, and producing some incredible sites. The video player is supposed to be much better, and the videos are in this site, so before we have them head somewhere else, and you had to upload him here and put links and codes.
The new site's is going to be nice for me because it's going to save me a lot of time, which frees me up to work on new projects, update old project because we have so much going. You probably may not know Brian Rutledge, my office, not office, my operations manager who is in the thick of helicopter flying. He's a law enforcement pilot in California, chief pilot and flight instructor for his aviation unit. I talk with Brian everyday, either texting or on the phone, and Brian sending me projects, and we're just hitting it really, really hard.
We love to have you take a look at our new training if you'd like to go through our new site, and go in and plank around and look at things, download my free book, take a look at that, see what it's all about, go below, click the link below this video. It will take you to our new site, so you can go and take a look around. Have any questions, send me a email at [email protected], and I'll get back with you as soon as I can.
Thanks for checking out our new training site for 2016. Let me know if you have any questions, and we'll see you in the next video.
