Struggling to Get Your Helicopter Flight Time? H.O.G.S. Can Help!

Overcoming Scheduling and Aircraft Issues Many aspiring helicopter pilots face difficulties in completing their flight training due to scheduling conflicts, aircraft maintenance issues, or the unavailability of examiners. In our latest podcast episode, we discussed how common these problems are and provided some practical solutions. For instance, we recently had a young man who had excellent ground knowledge but couldn't get on the flight schedule. He decided to come to us to finish his training, proving that persistence and seeking alternative options can help you overcome such hurdles.

Embracing Airman Certification Standards (ACS)

Our experience with the new Airman Certification Standards (ACS) has been positive. While changes in regulations often attract complaints, we found the ACS to be more practical compared to the previous Practical Test Standards (PTS). We've conducted four commercial rides this year using ACS, and the feedback has been encouraging. This system helps streamline the certification process, making it easier for students to complete their ratings.

Special Offers for Time Building and Day Trips Apart

From regular training, we also offer specialized services to help pilots build flying hours. We've organized day trips to exciting locations like Chicago and Indianapolis, offering an excellent opportunity for rated pilots to enjoy cross-country flights and gain additional experience. One of our attractive deals includes a flight to Chicago, where rated and qualified pilots can embark on a day trip, accumulating cross-country time at a favorable rate. We're also open to exploring other scenic destinations such as the Gross Hill Airport in Michigan, providing unique flying experiences while allowing us to document these adventures through photos and videos.

Time Builder Specials

Our time builder specials are tailored for those who need to accumulate flight hours quickly, whether for an SFAR endorsement, commercial rating, or other certifications. We've successfully offered packages ranging from five to thirty hours. For example, one pilot purchased a ten-hour package, then extended it to twenty hours. Another booked our aircraft for two weeks straight, allowing him to fly as much as possible within that period. These specials are flexible, meant to fit the varied needs of our students.

Final Approach Course

To address the common challenge of securing aircraft for final practice before check rides, we offer a Final Approach Course. This course includes intensive training over three to five days, after which the student takes a check ride. Our well-maintained R44 helicopter, which has only 150 hours on it, is usually available for such special training sessions. The downtime between our scheduled check rides gives us the perfect opportunity to offer this to students who need quick, intensive practice.

Ground School and Additional Resources

Strong ground knowledge is crucial for any pilot, but many students underestimate its importance. At helicopterground.com, we provide comprehensive ground school programs that help students overcome the common aversion to theoretical studies. Our courses are designed to ensure that students are well-prepared for their tests and check rides. We also offer a Helicopter Training Blueprint, available as a free PDF or a physical copy, to guide new students through their training journey. This resource is especially helpful for those just starting and looking for a roadmap to follow.
