Hey, it's Kenny Keller with Helicopter Online Ground School.  I want to cover a couple of questions for you today that are for the beginner and/or someone just starting out.

I just got a email from a gentleman who had five different questions.  The first question he asked was, "I don't have any background with flying and/or pilot education. What are the details of this course?"

Answer: Helicopter Online Ground School is a full-fledged online ground school training course to help you prepare for the practical test.  To get your helicopter rating, you're going to have to know core knowledge areas required by the FAA Practical Test Standards, also called The PTS. How much you do on your own and how much you do with an instructor will vary from person to person.  Our online ground school is geared to help you learn the information to go take the written test, the oral test, and the flight test.

FAQ's from someone researching Helicopter Online Training

His next question was, "What will be included in this course?"

Answer:  Our training consists of videos, MP3 downloads, and downloadable study guides. Our online training is compatible with the iPhone, iPad, smart phone, laptop, and desktop.  Our system is new, just developed in the last year.  No matter what device you have, you can log in to the training videos, access the MP3 downloads, and/or the downloadable study guides. The videos are not downloadable but the MP3 files are.  A lot people like MP3's for listening in the car while driving or they put it in their MP3 player while they are working out on the treadmill, or whatever the case may be.

His next question is, "How long will take it to complete this course?"

Answer:  That depends on any one individual. The private pilot membership has over 13 hours of video, the commercial pilot membership has over 8 hours of video, and I have to mention that the private pilot is included with the commercial pilot.  So the private pilot is 13 hours, and the commercial pilot is another 8 hours on top of that.  Everything you learn for the private pilot you have to know for the commercial pilot, but know it to a higher standard. For the certified flight instructor membership, there is over 15 hours of video. So, depending on which membership you are going for and depending on how much time you can put in per day to study will help determine how long it will take to get through the course.  You can do your own math that best fits your schedule and figure if you can do an hour a day.  You may complete the training in a few weeks.  If you want to hit it harder, you could do it faster. If you only log in once a week, that's going to take you a while to get through the training.

And his next question is, "Will this include practical training with a helicopter?"

Answer:  The answer to that question is NO.  This training course is only the ground knowledge. The dual aircraft training that you need to complete can be done at any flight school of your choice.  Depending on where you live, you can find a flight school somewhere nearby.  Again, you're going to do the dual and the aircraft at the flight school of your choice. You'll do some ground school with your instructor. Our training is an addition to whatever training you get with your instructor.  This is something you can access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any device which is what makes it so cool.

Then his last question, "Will there be any other charges until I get certification and fly with a helicopter?"

Answer: As of the making of this video, NO. There are no other charges from us. Right now, this unlimited membership. This is going to change in the future. We're going to switch to a subscription based membership, possibly monthly, possibly yearly where once a year you have to renew membership. For right now it's unlimited.

The practical training, aircraft time, instructor charges, required books, check ride fees... Those things you will have to research. As with payment at your flight school. We also get this question frequently, "Hey, do I get license after I go through your ground school videos?"

Answer: NO, you still have to complete the practical training in the aircraft, which we have a playlist for down below this video. There's a playlist link you can go to for 16 videos on what the costs will be, and how many hours you have to have. Those videos have a lot of basic video answers or video responses too...
