HOURS NEEDED FOR PROFESSIONAL FLYING JOB?

Hello and welcome to my blog post about the hours required to become a professional helicopter pilot, specifically for those interested in becoming a Helicopter EMS Pilot. My name is Kenny Keller, and I am the creator of Helicopter Online Ground School. I have been a helicopter pilot for over 25 years and have trained hundreds of aspiring pilots.

To become a Helicopter EMS Pilot, you must first obtain your commercial helicopter pilot license. You will also need the helicopter instrument rating. Most Helicopter EMS Pilot Jobs are going to require 1,500 to 2000 hours. However, this is just the minimum requirement, and most employers prefer pilots with a lot more experience.

Once you have your commercial license and instrument rating, you can start building the flight hours required for an EMS pilot job. The minimum flight time required by most EMS companies is 2000 hours, although many require 3000 or more. The additional flight time is necessary to develop the necessary skills and experience to handle the various situations that can arise during EMS missions.

In addition to flight time, EMS companies also look for pilots with specific training and certifications. These may include specialized training in helicopter emergency medical services, advanced training in night vision goggles (NVGs), and specialized training in aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF).

The path to becoming a Helicopter EMS Pilot is not easy, but it is certainly rewarding. You will have the opportunity to save lives and make a real difference in people's lives. However, it requires a significant investment of time, money, and effort to obtain the necessary training and flight hours.

In conclusion, becoming a professional helicopter pilot, specifically a Helicopter EMS Pilot, requires a minimum of 1500 hours of flight time and additional training and certifications. Most EMS companies require a minimum of 2000 hours, although many require more. It takes time, money, and dedication to reach this level, but the rewards are worth it. If you are serious about pursuing a career as a helicopter pilot, I encourage you to seek out a reputable flight school and start working towards your goals today.
